How to Mix Stair Variants for Detailed Builds
Know Your Five Variants
Macaw's Stairs gives each material five stair shapes: Compact, Loft, Bulk, Skyline, and Terrace, plus Balcony, Platform, and Railing. Compact is the smallest and tightest, Loft is steep and interior-friendly, Bulk is wide and heavy, Skyline is the tall decorative variant, and Terrace is the outdoor stepped version. Mixing them is how you get detail instead of a plain staircase.
Layer Variants on One Staircase
Build the main run with one variant — say Bulk for a grand entrance — then swap the top few steps for Skyline to give the top a taller, more ornamental profile. Use Compact Stairs for the very bottom step so the staircase tapers into the floor. This layering reads as intentional design rather than a single repeated block.
Trim with Balcony, Platform, and Railing
Finish the sides with Balcony blocks to add a low ledge, cap landings with Platform blocks, and run Railings along any open edge. Keep the material consistent across all variants — the shapes differ, but the color and grain should match. If you want contrast, use a different material only for the Railings and Platform so the stair itself stays unified.
