Capture Reflections and Shadows Effectively
Understanding Reflections
Lyrae Shaders adds true reflections to water, glass, and polished metal surfaces. These reflections show the actual environment—sky, trees, and buildings—bouncing off the surface. Reflections are most visible in still water and clear glass.
Positioning for Best Reflections
1. Build near water – Large water surfaces reflect the most detail. Lakes and oceans show sky, clouds, and nearby structures clearly
2. Use glass strategically – Transparent glass panes and blocks reflect light sources and surroundings
3. Polish metal blocks – Certain metal-textured blocks (with PBR packs) will reflect their environment
4. Photograph during golden hour – Sunrise and sunset create dramatic reflections with warm, angled light
Working with Dynamic Shadows
Shadows shift as the sun and moon move across the sky. They're sharpest at noon and soften near sunrise/sunset. Build structures with shadow play in mind—tall towers cast long shadows that can frame other builds, and overhangs create dramatic shade patterns.
Test your build at different times to see how shadows change. Use this to enhance architectural details and create visual interest through light and dark contrast.
