Set Up a Permission Hierarchy with Parent Ranks

What is a Permission Hierarchy?

A hierarchy lets lower ranks inherit permissions from higher ranks. For example, an Admin rank can inherit from Moderator, automatically gaining all Moderator permissions plus additional Admin-only powers.

Creating a Hierarchy in the Web Editor

1. Open the web editor and go to Groups

2. Select the rank that should inherit permissions (e.g., "Admin")

3. Look for a "Parent Groups" or "Inheritance" section

4. Add the lower rank as a parent (e.g., select "Moderator")

5. Save the changes

How Inheritance Works

When you set a parent:

  • The child rank automatically gains all permissions from the parent rank
  • You can add extra permissions to the child rank without affecting the parent
  • Changes to parent permissions apply to all child ranks

Common Hierarchy Structure

A typical setup flows from least to most powerful:

  • Player (base rank)
  • Builder (inherits from Player)
  • Moderator (inherits from Builder)
  • Admin (inherits from Moderator)

This prevents permission duplication and makes management easier. Update one rank's permissions and all ranks below it benefit automatically.
