Looot Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
What does the Looot Mod actually add to my game?
It doesn't add any items, blocks, or mobs on its own. It adds loot table functions and utilities that other mods and datapacks can use, most notably the name_enchanted_item function that generates names for enchanted gear.
How do I get started using Looot Mod in my world?
Since the mod adds no content by itself, you need either a datapack or another mod that calls its loot table functions. The quickest way to see it working is to apply the name_enchanted_item function to a loot table in a datapack.
How does the name_enchanted_item function decide what to name my item?
It reads the enchantments already on the item and builds a name from them. Items with one or two enchantments get a name tied to those specific enchantments, while items with three or more enchantments get a randomly generated name instead.
Why do some items get themed names like "Fishing Rod of the Siren" and others get random names?
The function behaves differently based on enchantment count. With one or two enchantments it produces a themed name referencing those enchantments, but once an item has three or more enchantments it switches to pulling a random name.
Can I add my own words and names to the generator?
Yes, you can extend the name pool through datapacks and resource packs. This lets you inject custom words, prefixes, suffixes, or full themed names into what the function can produce.
My items aren't getting names at all — what am I doing wrong?
The most common cause is that the name_enchanted_item function was never applied to the loot table that spawned the item, or it was applied before the enchantments were added. Make sure the function runs after enchantments are set on the item.
Does Looot Mod work on servers, or is it client-side only?
It's a loot table utility, so it belongs on the server or in singleplayer where loot tables are processed. Clients don't need it for the naming to work, though having it on both sides avoids mismatches.
Will Looot Mod conflict with other loot table mods or datapacks?
It's designed as a utility layer, so it generally coexists with other loot table mods. Conflicts only tend to happen if two
things try to modify the same loot table entry in incompatible ways.
things try to modify the same loot table entry in incompatible ways.Does Looot Mod hurt performance or cause lag?
The functions run only when loot is generated, not every tick, so the performance impact is negligible in normal play. Heavy datapacks that call the naming function on huge loot tables could add minor overhead during loot rolls.
Can I use Looot Mod functions in my own mod or datapack?
Yes, that's exactly what it's built for. You reference its loot table functions from your own loot tables, and you can extend the name pools via datapacks and resource packs to fit your theme.
