Use Live Placeholders to Show Item Stats

Understand Placeholder Syntax

Looming Script Lexicon supports dynamic text insertion through placeholders. These are special codes that pull real-time data from your item—such as durability remaining, enchantment names, attack damage, or keybind labels—and display them directly in the tooltip.

Insert Placeholders into Your Text

When editing a tooltip entry, type placeholder codes into your text lines. For example, you might write: "Durability: [durability]" or "Damage: [attack_damage]". The mod recognizes these codes and replaces them with live values when you view the item.

Common Use Cases

Use placeholders to display how many uses remain on a tool, which enchantments are active, or remind players of the keybind needed to activate a special ability. This keeps tooltips current without manual editing.

Test Your Placeholders

Hold CTRL in the editor to preview how placeholders render. If a placeholder doesn't match a valid stat, it may display blank or as literal text. Adjust your placeholder syntax and re-preview until the values appear correctly.
