How to Keep Chat History Across Sessions and Avoid Losing It

The core limitation

The extended history lives in memory for the current game session. Closing Minecraft, disconnecting in some cases, or crashing will clear it. The mod does not write chat to disk by itself, so if you need a permanent record you must capture it another way.

Practical ways to preserve chat

  • Copy before you quit: open chat, scroll to what matters, and copy the text out (select with the mouse and use Ctrl+C).
  • Use a logging mod: pair this mod with a client-side chat logger that appends messages to a file. That gives you a searchable archive while this mod gives you comfortable in-session scrolling.
  • Rely on server logs: on servers you run or have access to, the server's own log files record chat independently of your client.
  • Screenshot long threads: for visual records, take screenshots while scrolled to the relevant section.

Habits that help

If a conversation is important, deal with it immediately rather than assuming you can find it later. Note the approximate time and the players involved. Treat the in-game history as a convenience buffer, not as storage — that mindset prevents losing anything you actually needed.
