How do I actually see the older chat messages after installing this mod?
Open chat and scroll up with your mouse wheel or the Page Up key to move back through the extended history. The mod keeps the messages loaded, so you just keep scrolling past where vanilla chat would normally cut off.
Does the server need this mod installed too, or is it client-side only?
It's client-side only, so you can join any server without the server owner installing anything. The server still only sends the messages it sends, but your client keeps far more of them in memory.
Why does my chat still only show the normal short history?
Make sure the mod is actually loaded on your client and that you're scrolling far enough up, since the extra history sits above the default view. If another chat mod is installed, it may be overriding the chat window and capping the history.
Will keeping this much chat history hurt my FPS or use a lot of memory?
The history is just stored text, so the performance impact is normally negligible even with tens of thousands of messages. Memory use grows slowly as chat fills up, and it clears when you leave the world or server.
Is there a way to search or jump to an old message instead of scrolling forever?
The mod itself doesn't add a search box, so you scroll manually or use your chat mod's filtering if you have one. Scrolling with the mouse wheel is faster than dragging the scrollbar for long logs.
Does the longer history save between sessions, or do I lose it when I log out?
Chat history is held in memory for the current session, so it resets when you disconnect or close the game. If you need to keep a conversation, copy it out or use a chat-logging mod alongside this one.
Can I change how many messages are kept instead of the default maximum?
The mod raises the cap automatically, and any further tuning is done through your chat settings or config rather than in-game commands. Check the mod's config file if you want to adjust the limit.
Why did my chat history disappear after I changed a video or GUI setting?
Reloading resources or changing certain GUI options can rebuild the chat window and drop the stored messages. Rejoin the world or server to start a fresh history.
Will this conflict with other chat mods like chat tabs or chat heads?
It usually works fine, but mods that replace the chat HUD entirely may ignore the extended history. If your old messages vanish, test with only this mod enabled to confirm which one is interfering.
Does this mod work in singleplayer and on LAN worlds too?
Yes, it applies anywhere chat exists, including singleplayer and LAN. The extended history is most noticeable on busy servers where chat scrolls quickly.
