How to Configure Chat Settings So the Longer History Is Actually Usable

Why default settings hide your history

A huge history is useless if only a handful of lines fit on screen. The mod raises the cap, but the vanilla chat window still shows a small slice at a time. Tune the display options first.

Recommended adjustments

Open Options → Chat Settings and change:

  • Chat Height: raise it toward the maximum so more lines are visible per screen.
  • Chat Width: widen it so long messages do not wrap into many short lines.
  • Chat Opacity: increase it so older messages remain readable over bright terrain.
  • Background: consider the opaque background option if you read a lot of history, since it improves contrast.

Scaling and readability

If your GUI scale is very large, the chat window shows fewer lines. Lowering GUI Scale in Video Settings gives you more visible chat lines at the cost of smaller text. Find a balance you can read comfortably.

Behaviour to expect

Scrolling back does not pause new messages — they keep arriving at the bottom. When you scroll back to the newest line, you resume seeing live chat. Nothing is deleted when you scroll; the buffer simply holds far more than vanilla would.
