How to Set Up the Compass Overlay and Borders

Enabling the Compass

Locator Heads includes an optional compass overlay that gives you a fixed directional reference to pair with the player heads. Open the mod config and enable the compass overlay. You can set its color to whatever reads best against your HUD and environment — pick something high-contrast if you play with busy backgrounds. If the direction letters are hard to read, turn on compass shadow outlining, which draws a shadow behind the letters so they stay legible over bright terrain or sky.

Adding and Sizing Borders

Borders help separate the overlay from the rest of your HUD. In the config, enable borders and then adjust their thickness to taste. Thicker borders make the overlay pop but eat more screen space; thinner borders are subtler. If you also use the head size setting, tune the two together so the heads and their borders look balanced rather than cramped.

Suggested order of operations:

1. Enable the compass and pick a color.

2. Turn on shadow outlining for the letters.

3. Enable borders and dial in thickness.

4. Adjust head size last so everything fits the bar cleanly.

Save the config and check the result in-game, ideally while moving so you can confirm the compass tracks your facing correctly.
