Live Texture Editor Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using the mod?
Press J to enable editor mode, then look directly at any block, mob, or item and press R to open the painting screen. You can also press J again to toggle editor mode off when you're done.
Can I edit textures on blocks that are far away?
No, you need to look directly at the block you want to edit and be close enough to see it clearly. The mod only lets you edit what you're currently looking at when you press R.
What happens if I make a mistake while painting?
Use the eraser tool to remove pixels, or hold X while playing to temporarily hide all your changes and see the original textures. Your changes aren't saved until you export them, so you can always start over on a texture.
Can I paint over custom textures from my current resource pack?
Yes, the mod reads your currently active resource pack and lets you add new changes on top of it. Your edits will layer over the existing textures.
How do I save my painted textures?
Click the export button in the menu to save all your changes as a zip file resource pack. This creates a new pack file without overwriting your original game files.
Can I edit the same block multiple times?
Yes, you can open and edit any texture as many times as you want. Each time you export, your latest changes are included in the resource pack file.
Does the grid help with pixel-perfect painting?
Yes, press G to turn on a grid overlay that helps you count pixels and align your drawings. You can also use your mouse wheel to zoom in for detailed work.
Can I edit mobs and items the same way as blocks?
Yes, click directly on a mob like a zombie or creeper, or on an item in your world, and press R to open the painting screen just like you would for blocks.
Will editing textures affect other players on a server?
Your texture changes only appear on your own client and don't affect the server or other players. You'll need to share your exported resource pack file if you want others to see your custom textures.
Can I edit my health bar, hunger bar, and inventory screens?
Yes, the mod includes menu customization features that let you redraw your HUD elements and inventory screens using the same painting tools as block textures.
