LittleRoomDev Hydra Model FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get Hydra to spawn on my server?
Copy the Hydra folder into plugins/ModelEngine/blueprints/, then run /meg reload. If you're using Mythic Mobs, create a mob config that references the Hydra model and spawn it with /mm m spawn hydra 1 or a custom command.
Do I need Mythic Mobs to use Hydra?
No—Mythic Mobs is optional. ModelEngine alone will display the Hydra model and its animations, but Mythic Mobs lets you add custom abilities, health stages, loot tables, and behavior without writing plugins.
Why isn't Hydra showing up after I reload ModelEngine?
Check that the Hydra folder is in the correct path (plugins/ModelEngine/blueprints/) and that ModelEngine reloaded without errors in console. If you see errors, verify the .bbmodel file isn't corrupted and that ModelEngine version is compatible with your server build.
Can I edit Hydra's animations or add new ones?
Yes—open the .bbmodel file in Blockbench, edit or add animations, then save and reload ModelEngine. The three heads are rigged separately, so you can animate each one independently for custom attack patterns.
What's the performance impact of spawning Hydra?
Hydra is a single large entity with pre-baked animations, so the impact is similar to spawning one complex mob. Performance depends on your server hardware and how many players are nearby; test in your arena first to see if you need to adjust spawn rates or use fewer simultaneous bosses.
Can I make Hydra smaller or larger?
ModelEngine allows you to scale entities in the mob config—check your Mythic Mobs config or ModelEngine documentation for the scale property. Scaling affects both size and hitbox, so test combat range after resizing.
Does Hydra work on Spigot or only Paper/Purpur?
Hydra is designed for Paper or Purpur because ModelEngine requires their advanced entity handling. Spigot may not support the full animation system, so stick with Paper-based servers for best results.
How do I make Hydra's fire breath actually damage players?
Use Mythic Mobs to add damage skills triggered during the fire-breath animation—you can define area-of-effect damage, knockback, and fire effects in the mob config. Without Mythic Mobs, the animation plays but deals no damage.
Can I use Hydra in a multiplayer arena where multiple players fight it at once?
Yes—Hydra is scaled for raid-boss fights and designed to handle multiple attackers. Make sure your arena has enough space for the three-headed model and position spawn points so players can't cheese the fight by hiding behind terrain.
What happens if I try to ride or leash Hydra?
Hydra is a boss entity and typically cannot be ridden or leashed through normal mechanics. If you need custom behavior, use Mythic Mobs to disable those interactions or add your own rules in the mob config.
