How to Find Continents and Deep Oceans in Lithosphere
Understanding the New Overworld Layout
Lithosphere replaces the vanilla patchwork of biomes with a continental system. Instead of wandering between small biome islands, you will find a few gigantic landmasses and several smaller continents, separated by wide, deep oceans. The key to navigating this world is recognizing that land and water are now organized on a much larger scale than vanilla.
Practical Steps for Exploration
Start by travelling in a straight line for a long distance rather than zigzagging. Because
continents are huge, you may spend a while on one before reaching its coast. When you hit the ocean, keep going — deep oceans are intentionally wide, and turning back early will just return you to the same continent.
Watch for occasional islands and archipelagos scattered through the deep water. These are useful as rest stops and resource outposts, and they often signal that you are far from any mainland.
If you want to reach a different continent quickly, use a boat and a compass or map mod to track your heading. Marking your home continent's coastline on a map helps you avoid getting lost, since the scale of the oceans makes backtracking difficult. Once you spot a new coastline, note whether it is a gradual beach or a steep cliff — that tells you what kind of terrain lies inland.
