Lithosphere Data Pack FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know Lithosphere is actually working?
Start a brand new world after enabling the data pack, since terrain generation only applies to chunks generated after activation. Fly or sail in one direction for a while and look for wide beaches, deep oceans between landmasses, and rounded mountain ranges instead of vanilla's pointy peaks. If the terrain still looks like default Minecraft, the pack isn't applied to that world.
Do I need to create a new world for Lithosphere to work?
Yes, for the terrain features to appear you need a fresh world, because already-generated chunks keep their original terrain. You can add the pack to an existing world, but only unexplored chunks will generate with Lithosphere terrain, which can create harsh seams at the borders.
Why does my world have weird cliffs where old and new terrain meet?
That's a chunk border seam: chunks generated before the pack was enabled keep vanilla terrain, while newly generated chunks use Lithosphere's continents and oceans. It's most visible when the pack is added mid-world, so the cleanest fix is starting fresh.
How do I find a continent instead of endless ocean?
Pick a direction and travel consistently, since continents are large and separated by wide deep oceans with occasional islands and archipelagos. Boats make ocean crossings much faster, and a tall vantage point or a map helps you spot landmasses on the horizon.
Where should I build my first base in Lithosphere?
Aim for a gradual coastline with a large beach, which gives you easy water access, flat building space, and a gentle transition into the ocean. Avoid building right at the base of steep cliffs near mountainous regions unless you want the dramatic view and don't mind limited flat ground.
Are the mountains in Lithosphere hard to climb?
They're less pointy than vanilla's onion-ring peaks, forming broader ranges with more gradual slopes, so they're generally easier to traverse on foot. Bring blocks for bridging and watch for steep cliff faces near the coast where the terrain drops sharply.
Why can't I find villages or structures near the coast anymore?
Structure placement depends on the terrain the game generates, and Lithosphere's large beaches, deep oceans, and reshaped mountains change where valid spots exist. Structures still spawn, but their distribution shifts, so explore more broadly rather than expecting them in the same spots as vanilla.
Does Lithosphere work with other world generation or biome mods?
Data packs that also rewrite overworld terrain generation will usually conflict with Lithosphere, since both try to control the same terrain shapes. Biome or structure packs that don't touch terrain shaping are more likely to work, but always test in a fresh world before committing to a long-term save.
Will Lithosphere hurt my game's performance?
Terrain generation cost is mostly felt while new chunks are being created, so you may notice brief lag when exploring or crossing oceans. Once chunks are generated, performance is similar to vanilla, so pre-generating your play area can smooth things out.
Can I use Lithosphere on a server with friends?
Yes, the data pack needs to be installed on the server so all players see the same terrain, and everyone should generate the world fresh. Clients don't need the pack themselves for terrain, but mismatched setups can cause confusion about what terrain looks like.
