How to Explore Lithosphere's Mountain Ranges

What Changed About Mountains

Vanilla's "onion ring" mountains — concentric rings of terrain around a peak — are gone in Lithosphere. They are replaced by mountain ranges that look more cinematic and less pointy, with broader ridges and more natural silhouettes. This changes how you climb and where you build.

Climbing and Settling in the Range

Because peaks are less spiky, ridgelines are often walkable. Follow a ridge instead of trying to scale a single face; you will gain height steadily and avoid dead ends. Bring blocks for bridging gaps and a pickaxe for the occasional obstruction.

Steep cliffs are common where these ranges meet the coast, so if you are approaching from the sea, expect a hard wall of rock rather than a beach. Inland, look for saddles and passes between peaks — these are the natural routes through a range and are useful for roads or rail lines.

For building, the broader slopes give you more flat-ish ground than vanilla peaks. Terraced bases, mountain villages and lookout towers fit well here. Check the surrounding terrain before committing: a ridge that looks isolated may connect to a larger massif, which affects both the view and how easily you can travel onward. Mark passes and ridgelines on your map as you explore.
