Light Dust Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to do anything to start seeing dust particles?
No—dust particles spawn automatically around light sources once the mod is installed. You should see them immediately in lit areas like near torches, lanterns, and glowstone without any setup required.
Why can't I see dust particles even though the mod is installed?
Dust only spawns in areas with sufficient light; very dark caves or night-time outdoor areas may have few or no particles. Try standing near a bright light source, or check your spawn mode and particle settings in the in-game configuration menu.
How do I make dust particles more visible in bright daylight?
Increase the particle spawn rate or switch to Fancy spawn mode in the mod settings for more detailed particle generation. You can also look toward shaded areas or indoors where contrast makes particles easier to spot.
What's the difference between Fast and Fancy spawn modes?
Fast mode uses simpler calculations to protect FPS, while Fancy mode creates more detailed and realistic particle spreading patterns at a higher performance cost. Choose Fast if you're experiencing lag, or Fancy if your system can handle it and you want more visual detail.
The mod is causing lag—how do I fix it?
Switch to Fast spawn mode and lower the fastSpawnChecks value in your configuration to reduce the particle budget. You can also disable dust in specific biomes or reduce the overall particle density through the in-game settings.
Do dust particles react to me moving around?
Yes—particles are pushed outward when you land heavily, and they're pulled toward blocks you break. Swinging tools and nearby explosions also disturb nearby dust, creating realistic motion responses.
Why do particles rise up above certain blocks?
Heat blocks like lava, magma, and campfires create updrafts that lift floating dust particles into the air, simulating hot air currents rising naturally.
Can dust particles pass through walls?
No—the mod includes wall occlusion checks that prevent dust from appearing inside solid blocks or behind walls, keeping particles only in open spaces where light can reach.
Do dust colors change based on where I am?
Yes—particles adopt colors and tints based on your current biome and surrounding blocks, so dust in a forest looks different from dust in a desert or near colored blocks.
Does this mod work with other particle or lighting mods?
Light Dust Mod is generally compatible with most mods, but conflicts can occur with mods that heavily modify particle rendering or lighting systems. Test it with your other mods and adjust spawn mode if you experience issues.
