How to Change Tooltip Borders and Colors in Legendary Tooltips

Understanding Border Selection

Legendary Tooltips assigns a border to each item based on rules. By default, items are matched by rarity, mod namespace, or specific item IDs. You can override these rules to make any item use any border you have available.

Assigning a Border to an Item

Open the mod's config screen from the mod list or via the in-game config menu. Navigate to the border definitions section. Each entry has a priority and a set of conditions. To force a specific item to use a border, add a new entry with a condition matching that item's registry name, then set its border to the one you want. Higher priority entries win when multiple match.

Changing Colors

Each border definition includes color options for the border itself, the background, and the text. Adjust these values to recolor the tooltip. If a border supports gradient or animated colors, those options appear alongside the base color fields.

Using Resource Pack Borders

Custom borders are loaded from resource packs. Place your border textures and their definition files in the correct pack folder structure, then enable the pack. The mod reads up to sixteen custom borders this way. After enabling, they appear in the border selection list and can be assigned like any built-in border.
