Lazy Language Loader Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know Lazy Language Loader is actually doing anything?
Switch languages in-game and watch the loading overlay: with the mod working, the resource reload screen should flash by almost instantly instead of the long freeze you'd get in vanilla. If you still see a full resource reload, the mod likely isn't loaded or another mod is overriding the language reload path.
Why does the game still freeze a little when I change language?
The mod skips the full resource reload, but it still has to rebuild the language manager and re-render text on screen, so a brief hitch is normal. A long freeze usually means something else is triggering a full reload, such as a resource pack change happening at the same time.
Do I need to enable anything in the config for it to work?
In most setups the mod works out of the box with no configuration needed. If a config file exists, it typically only toggles the lazy reload behavior on or off, so check there first if language changes behave like vanilla.
Can I switch languages while in a world, or do I have to go back to the main menu?
You can change language from the in-game options menu without leaving your world. The mod's whole point is making that safe and fast, so frequent mid-game switching won't force a full resource reload.
Does this mod work with resource packs that add custom fonts or language files?
It reloads the language manager rather than all resources, so custom language files from resource packs are picked up when the language is applied. Custom fonts, however, are part of the resource pack system, so changing a font-related pack may still trigger a normal reload.
Will Lazy Language Loader break other mods that add translations?
It only changes when the language manager reloads, not how translations are registered, so mods that ship their own language files generally work fine. If a mod's translations don't appear after switching, try a full resource reload once to confirm the mod itself is loading its lang files.
Is it safe to use on a server, or is it client-side only?
It's a client-side quality-of-life mod, so it doesn't need to be installed on the server and won't affect other players. You can join any server with it as long as the server allows client-side mods.
Why did my language change but some text is still in the old language?
Some text comes from sources that aren't part of the language manager, like certain mod GUIs or hardcoded strings, so it won't update until those are reloaded. A full resource reload or restart will refresh those, but the mod intentionally avoids that for speed.
Does this help on low-end PCs, or only on fast ones?
It helps most on low-end PCs, because the long freeze during language changes comes from reloading all resources, which is the heaviest part. Skipping that means weaker hardware sees the biggest improvement in perceived responsiveness.
What's the difference between this and just using a resource pack that changes language?
A resource pack changes what text is displayed, but switching it still triggers a full resource reload. Lazy Language Loader changes how the game applies a language, so the switch itself is fast regardless of what language files you're using.
