Improve FPS in Caves and Underground Areas
Use Vertical Culling in Super Fast Mode
Caves and deep underground areas cause lag because the game loads many hidden blocks you cannot see. Switch to Super Fast mode to enable vertical culling, which stops the game from loading caves and blocks beneath your feet.
How It Works
Vertical culling is most effective when you're above ground or in shallow areas. It prevents the game from rendering entire cave systems below you, dramatically reducing the load on your graphics card and CPU.
When Underground
If you're actively mining or exploring caves, vertical culling has less effect since you're inside the cave system. In this case:
- Stay in Super Fast mode for other optimizations like aggressive culling and particle optimization
- The Smart Fog System will hide empty spaces where distant areas aren't loaded, maintaining visual quality
- Particles from mining and explosions remain visible but load more efficiently
Best Results
Vertical culling works best in open-world exploration. You'll notice the biggest FPS boost when traveling across biomes, building above ground, or exploring terrain from high elevations.
