KubeJS Ars Nouveau Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start writing Ars Nouveau recipes with KubeJS?
Open your KubeJS server scripts folder and create a .js file, then use the ServerEvents.recipes event and call event.recipes.ars_nouveau followed by the recipe type you want, such as enchanting_apparatus, enchantment, or crush.
What is the difference between the enchanting_apparatus and enchantment recipe types?
enchanting_apparatus creates a normal crafting-style recipe that consumes input items and a reagent to produce an output item, while enchantment applies an enchantment to an item placed on the apparatus instead of producing a new item.
How many input items does the enchanting apparatus recipe need?
The input list is an array, so you can pass as many items as your setup requires, but the array must be formatted correctly with each entry separated by a comma and the whole list wrapped in square brackets.
What does the source cost number do in these recipes?
The source cost is the amount of Ars Nouveau source that must be available in the nearby source jar or network for the recipe to actually craft, so setting it too high can make the recipe appear to do nothing if you lack source.
How do I make a crush recipe drop multiple items or use chances?
The crush recipe takes a loot table array where each entry can be a plain item or an object with an item and a maxRolls value, and you can also set the final boolean to true to drop the results in the world instead of into a container.
Why does my custom recipe not show up in JEI or the apparatus?
The most common causes are a syntax error in the script, using an item ID that does not exist, or forgetting to reload KubeJS with the /reload command after saving the file.
Can I use tags instead of specific items in the input list?
Yes, KubeJS accepts item tags in the input arrays, so you can pass a tag string such as a namespace:tag entry wherever a normal item ID would go, which lets the recipe accept any item in that tag.
What does the keep NBT boolean do in the enchanting apparatus recipe?
When set to true, the output item keeps the NBT data of the reagent item, similar to how smithing recipes copy data, so enchanted or named reagents transfer their properties to the result.
Does the enchantment recipe work on any item or only specific ones?
The enchantment recipe applies the specified enchantment to whatever item is placed on the apparatus, but the enchantment itself must be valid for that item type or the game may reject or ignore the result.
Will adding many KubeJS Ars Nouveau recipes hurt performance?
Recipe registration happens at load time and has negligible runtime cost, so performance issues are more likely from large loot tables in crush recipes or from other scripts running every tick rather than from the recipe count itself.
