Using Krypton on a Server with a Proxy (Velocity)

Why This Combination Matters

Krypton's Netty handlers are derived from work done in the Velocity proxy project, so the two are designed with the same networking philosophy. Running Krypton on your backend servers alongside a Velocity proxy gives you optimized packet handling on both sides of the connection.

Where to Install It

Install Krypton on each backend Minecraft server, not on the proxy itself — the proxy is a separate Java application and does not load Fabric or Forge mods. The proxy handles player routing and connection management; the backend servers handle the actual game world, entity tracking, and packet serialization, which is where Krypton's optimizations apply.

Avoiding Double Optimization

Do not stack multiple mods that rewrite the same Netty pipeline on the same backend server. If your proxy already provides optimized handlers, adding another networking mod on top of Krypton can cause conflicts or cancel out the benefit. Keep one networking optimization per backend. After installing, join through the proxy and confirm players connect normally, move smoothly, and that entity updates in busy areas are not delayed. If you see rubber-banding or dropped packets, remove other networking mods and retest before blaming Krypton.
