Krypton Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know if Krypton is actually doing anything?
Krypton doesn't add items, blocks, or commands, so there's nothing to see in-game. Check your server log for Krypton's startup message and compare server tick times or CPU usage before and after installing it.
Does Krypton work on the client or only on servers?
Krypton is primarily a server-side optimization mod, but it can also be installed on the client. On a client it improves your own networking performance, though the biggest gains come from running it on the server.
Do players need Krypton installed to join my server?
No. Krypton is a server-side mod and vanilla clients can connect normally. Players don't need to install anything on their end to benefit from the optimizations.
Is Krypton compatible with other performance mods like Lithium or Sodium?
Yes, Krypton is designed to complement other optimization mods. Lithium handles game logic, Sodium handles rendering, and Krypton handles networking, so they target different areas and generally work fine together.
Will Krypton break my existing world or cause chunk corruption?
No. Krypton only changes how packets are handled and flushed, not how the world is saved. It doesn't touch world data, so your existing worlds are safe.
Why does Krypton conflict with some other networking mods?
Krypton replaces parts of the vanilla Netty pipeline, so mods that also modify networking handlers can clash. If you get a startup crash, remove other networking-focused mods and test one at a time.
Can I use Krypton with a Velocity or BungeeCord proxy?
Yes, Krypton works fine behind a proxy. Since Krypton's handlers are derived from Velocity's own networking code, they're designed to behave well in proxied setups.
Does Krypton reduce lag spikes or just average tick time?
Krypton mainly reduces CPU load from packet flushing and serialization, which lowers overall tick times. It won't fix lag caused by entity AI, chunk generation, or redstone, so pair it with other optimizations for those.
How much RAM or CPU does Krypton need?
Krypton uses less memory than vanilla networking because of its micro-optimizations, so it won't increase your resource usage. It's a net reduction, not an addition.
Do I need to configure Krypton after installing it?
No configuration is required. Krypton works out of the box with sensible defaults, and there are no player-facing settings to tune.
