Reducing Server Lag and Tick Times with Krypton
What Krypton Actually Optimizes
Krypton targets two bottlenecks: the networking stack (Netty handlers, packet flushing, serialization) and the entity tracker. It consolidates flushes so the server does fewer, larger writes instead of many small ones, which lowers CPU usage and tick times. It also uses micro-optimizations to cut memory churn during packet handling.
Getting the Most Out of It
Install Krypton on the server, not just the client — the entity tracker and flush logic run server-side. Keep your view distance and simulation distance reasonable; Krypton makes tracking cheaper but does not make an overloaded server free. Pair it with other performance mods that target different areas (chunk loading, lighting, mob AI) rather than stacking multiple mods that all rewrite the same networking path, which can cause conflicts.
Reading the Results
Use your server's tick-time reporting (the vanilla /debug profiler or your host's built-in timing) before and after adding Krypton. Compare tick times during peak player counts, when many entities are loaded and players are moving. The improvement is usually most visible in those busy moments rather than at idle. If tick times do not change, check that Krypton is actually loaded and that no other mod is overriding the same handlers.
