Understand Config File Organization

Where Settings Are Stored

Konfig Mod saves all settings as TOML files in your .minecraft/config folder. Each mod using Konfig gets its own folder containing:

  • Client settings: Apply only to your game instance
  • Server settings: Synced from the server when you join (server values override your local ones)
  • Common settings: Shared between client and server

Reading and Editing Config Files

You can open these TOML files with any text editor. Each setting includes:

  • A clear name and description
  • The current value
  • Comments explaining what the setting does
  • Version information for tracking updates

While you can edit files directly, using the in-game menu is safer and prevents syntax errors. If you manually edit a file, reload your game or use the mod's reload function to apply changes.

Version Tracking

Konfig automatically tracks schema versions. If a mod updates and adds new settings, your old config values migrate forward without being lost, and new defaults appear alongside your existing preferences.
