Konfig Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the settings menu for Konfig Mod?
On Fabric, open Mod Menu and look for mods with settings icons. On Forge and NeoForge, click the mod list button from the main menu, find your mod, and select its config option. The visual settings screen will open immediately.
Where are my config files saved?
Config files are saved in your game folder under `config/` organized by mod name in TOML format. You can edit them directly in a text editor, but changes made in-game through the visual menu are easier and safer.
Can I use Konfig Mod on a server?
Yes—Konfig Mod syncs server-side settings to all connected players during login and when the server reloads. Client-only settings remain local, while server settings override player preferences to keep everyone in sync.
What does scope mean in konfig settings?
Scope determines where a setting is stored: client settings stay on your computer, server settings sync from the server to all players, and common settings work on both. This keeps your preferences organized and prevents conflicts.
Why arent my server settings applying to players?
Make sure the settings are marked with server scope, not client scope. Server-side configs only sync when players join or the server reloads—changes made mid-session won't take effect until reconnect.
Can I edit config files directly instead of using the menu?
Yes, you can edit TOML files in any text editor, but the in-game menu is safer because it validates your input and prevents syntax errors. If you edit files directly, restart your game to reload the changes.
What happens if I delete a config file?
The mod will regenerate the file with default values the next time you launch. If you want to reset settings, deleting the config file is the quickest way.
Does Konfig Mod work with Fabric Forge and NeoForge at the same time?
No—you install Konfig Mod on whichever loader you're using (Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge), and it works only with that loader. The mod itself is cross-loader compatible, but each installation is separate.
Can I use color pickers and sliders in the settings menu?
Yes, Konfig Mod includes built-in editors for colors (ARGB), number sliders, toggles, text fields, and dropdown lists. The visual controls update your config file automatically when you save.
What does schema version tracking do?
Schema versions track when config file formats change between mod updates. If a mod updates its settings structure, Konfig Mod automatically migrates your old values to the new format without losing your preferences.
