Understand Bark Patterns and Wood Ring Textures

How Natural Bark Works

The mod adds randomized bark details to all tree trunks, including knots, small holes, and unique surface patterns. These textures appear on the outer sides of logs and make each tree look distinct and realistic.

Wood Rings on Top and Bottom

Logs now display growth rings on their top and bottom faces. These rings vary in size and spacing, mimicking how real trees grow. On living trees (those still connected to leaves), the rings flow continuously from the base to the canopy, showing a unified growth pattern.

What Affects Appearance

  • Living trees: Show connected, flowing wood rings and detailed bark
  • Separated logs: Retain bark patterns but lose the connected ring effect
  • Placed logs: Display bark and rings but won't connect to adjacent logs, even if touching
  • Custom wood types: The mod supports wood from Regions Unexplored and other mods, applying the same realistic texturing

These visual changes work entirely through texture updates—no new blocks or items are added to your inventory or crafting system.
