Knots & Rings Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I make trees look naturally connected with wood rings?
Leave the leaves on your tree and the logs touching those leaves will automatically display connected wood rings and act as one living trunk. The wood rings will flow smoothly from the bottom to the top of the tree.
Why do my chopped logs look disconnected?
Once you remove the leaves from a tree, the logs stop being "alive" and display as separate blocks. This is intentional—it lets you use those logs for building without the connected appearance interfering with your designs.
How do I break apart connected logs in a living tree?
Hit the connected logs with a Pickaxe and they will break apart into separate pieces that you can collect and use for building.
Can I reconnect logs that I've separated?
Yes, use Bone Meal on separate logs and they will slowly heal back together into one connected trunk over time.
Do I need to install new blocks or items to use this mod?
No, Knots & Rings Mod works entirely with existing wood blocks and uses only a Pickaxe and Bone Meal—no new items or blocks are added to your game.
Will this mod work with custom wood types from other mods?
Yes, the mod supports custom wood types from the Regions Unexplored mod and applies bark patterns and wood rings to those logs as well.
What do the bark patterns and knots actually do?
They're purely visual—the knots, small holes, and random bark patterns make tree trunks look more realistic and natural, but they don't affect how the wood functions or performs.
Why do some of my placed wood blocks look connected when I don't want them to?
Wood blocks only stay connected and show living wood rings if they're touching natural leaves from a tree. Make sure your building materials are far from any foliage, or the leaves will cause them to display as connected.
Does this mod affect performance or cause lag?
The mod only changes the appearance of existing wood blocks and doesn't add new blocks or items, so it should have minimal impact on performance.
What happens to the stump when I chop down a tree?
The mod leaves a nicely connected stump showing natural growth rings and bark patterns, giving your forest a more realistic appearance after logging.
