Karma Nightmare Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn off the fear effects if they're too intense?
Fear effects like screen warping and eye spawns are tied to how long you stay in darkness—the longer you remain without light, the stronger they become. The best way to reduce them is to place torches, campfires, or other light sources around you; this resets your time in darkness and calms the visual distortions.
Why does my screen keep pulsing red?
Your screen pulses red when your health drops below six hearts as a visual warning that you're in danger. Eat food or drink healing potions to restore your health and stop the pulsing effect.
What's the blood moon and when does it happen?
The blood moon is a rare nighttime event where the sky turns red and bathes your entire world in a crimson glow. It happens randomly on certain nights and makes the world feel even more ominous, though it doesn't directly harm you—it's mainly a visual and atmospheric effect.
Is the Nether actually pitch black or can I still see lava?
The Nether becomes almost completely dark, with lava being the primary light source. This means you'll need to rely on lava pools, torches, and other light-emitting blocks to navigate safely.
Do the scary figures actually attack me?
The tall shadows and floating eyes that appear in forests at night are visual hallucinations caused by prolonged darkness—they vanish when you get close and don't deal damage. However, actual hostile mobs can still spawn and attack you, so you should still be cautious.
Why is everything so dark and washed out?
The shader desaturates most colors to create a horror-movie atmosphere, making the world feel bleak and drained. Fire and red-colored items remain bright and vivid to stand out against this muted palette.
Does the thick fog affect my ability to find resources?
Yes, the heavy 3D fog reduces visibility significantly, especially during storms, making it harder to spot mobs, structures, and resources from a distance. Carrying torches and staying in lit areas helps you see better.
What happens if I stay in a cave for too long?
The longer you stay in darkness without light sources, the more intense the fear effects become—your screen warps, glowing eyes spawn on walls, and the atmosphere becomes increasingly unsettling. Place torches frequently to break up the darkness and reset these effects.
Does the shader affect the End dimension?
Yes, the End is transformed with a scary black ocean replacing the normal void, making it feel more claustrophobic and ominous. The End dimension becomes much more visually threatening under this shader.
Will this shader make my game lag or run slower?
Shaders are generally demanding on performance since they add complex visual effects like fog, shadows, and screen distortions. If you experience lag, try lowering your shader settings or graphics quality, or ensure your GPU drivers are up to date.
