Change Light Banding Levels for Different Shading Styles

Open Shader Customization

Access your shader settings menu from the video/graphics options while playing. Navigate to the Karma Cartoon Style Shaders configuration panel.

Select Light Banding Mode

Find the light banding option, which typically offers three choices:

  • Two Bands: Creates the most dramatic, high-contrast look with only two distinct light levels (bright and shadow)
  • Three Bands: Provides a balanced middle ground with subtle gradation between light and shadow
  • Four Bands: Offers the smoothest transition with more nuanced lighting layers

Each mode changes how sunlight and shadows are rendered across your world, affecting the overall cartoon aesthetic.

Preview and Choose

Switch between modes and observe how your surroundings change. Two bands works well for bold, graphic environments. Three bands suits most playstyles. Four bands creates a softer, more detailed painted effect. Your choice affects caves, outdoor lighting, and building interiors, so test in different locations before settling on a style.
