How do I turn on the shader after installing it?
Open the Options menu, go to Video Settings, then look for Shader Options or Shaders. Select Karma Cartoon Style Shaders from the list to activate it. You should see the cartoon effect take effect immediately in your world.
Can I adjust how thick the ink outlines are?
Yes, open Shader Settings and find the Ink Outline Thickness option. You can increase or decrease the line weight, or disable outlines entirely if you prefer just the cel-shaded lighting without the drawn effect.
What does light banding do and how many levels are there?
Light banding converts smooth shadows into distinct flat bands of color, making the cartoon effect more pronounced. You can choose between two, three, or four banding levels depending on how stylized you want your lighting to look.
Why do my hands and items still look normal?
The shader intentionally keeps your held items and hands unaffected by ink outlines so they remain clear and readable during gameplay. This is by design to maintain usability while the world around you stays cartoonified.
Does this shader work in the nether and end?
Yes, both dimensions have custom cartoon effects. The Nether gets a flat crimson sky and a giant animated lava orb, while The End features a rotating galaxy crown and aurora ribbons around the void.
What is posterization and should I use it?
Posterization flattens color gradients into fewer, more distinct shades, enhancing the painted look. Enable it if you want a more graphic-novel style appearance, or leave it off for smoother color transitions.
Will this shader lag my game?
Karma Cartoon Style Shaders is designed to run smoothly on most systems since it uses simpler lighting calculations than realistic shaders. Performance depends on your hardware, but it's generally lighter than photorealistic shader packs.
Can I use this with other shader packs at the same time?
No, only one shader can be active at a time. You'll need to switch between Karma and other shaders in your Video Settings if you want to compare them.
Why does the water look flat and painted?
The shader replaces water with flat colors and adds an animated white foam line along shores instead of realistic reflections. It also adds a hard sun gleam to water surfaces for a more stylized, painted appearance.
Can I turn off the cartoon effect for just the sky or clouds?
The shader doesn't offer individual toggles for sky or clouds separately, but you can adjust overall ink outline strength and light banding levels to dial back the cartoon intensity across all elements.
