How to Use Effect Icons and Colors to Identify Buffs In-Game

Clicking Effects From Your Inventory

While playing, your active effects appear in the inventory screen's effect box. With this mod installed, each of those icons becomes clickable. Click one to jump straight to its page in the Effects category, where you can read its description and see what provides it. This is handy mid-fight when you're not sure what a strange icon means.

Using the Color Swatch

Every effect page shows the effect's color. That color matches the tint of the particles that swirl around an entity under that effect, and often the icon's background. Once you know an effect's color, you can identify it at a glance in the world without opening your inventory — useful for spotting debuffs on mobs or buffs on allies.

Practical Tips

  • Hover the effect icon in your inventory first to read the vanilla-style tooltip, then click for the full JEI page.
  • Use the JEI search bar with part of the effect name if the grid is long.
  • If an effect has no description, rely on the source mod's name shown on the page to look it up.
  • Remember modded effects only show descriptions if their author registered the language key, so don't assume a blank page means the effect does nothing.
