Just Enough Effect Descriptions Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the Effects category in JEI?
Click any status effect icon shown on the JEI item screen, or click an active effect in its box on your inventory screen. Either action opens the Effects recipe category where you can browse every registered status effect.
How do I find out which items give me a specific status effect?
Open the effect's page in the Effects category and look at the list of items that can provide it. The mod automatically detects food items as effect providers, so most edible sources will show up there.
Why does a modded effect have no description?
The mod auto-registers every status effect, but modded effects only get a description if the mod author added one to their language file. If the description is missing, the mod that adds the effect simply hasn't provided that text.
How does a mod author add a description to their custom effect?
They add the string "effect.[mod_id].[effect_name].description" to their language file. Once that key exists, the mod will display it on the effect's page automatically.
How do I add an item as a source for an effect if it isn't food?
The mod only auto-detects food items as effect providers, so non-food sources need to be registered by the mod developer. If an item you expect to see isn't listed, the mod that adds it hasn't declared it as an effect source.
What information can I see on an effect's page?
Each effect page shows items that can provide the effect, a description of what it does, which mod it comes from, and its effect color. This lets you identify both vanilla and modded effects at a glance.
How do I tell what a buff icon in my inventory means?
Click the effect's box on your inventory screen to jump straight to its page in the Effects category. There you can read its description and see its color and source mod.
Does this mod work with modded status effects?
Yes, it automatically adds all registered status effects, including modded ones, to its page. The only catch is that modded effects won't have a description unless their author added one.
Do I need Just Enough Items installed for this mod to work?
Yes, this mod is a JEI plugin, so Just Enough Items must be installed for the Effects category to appear. Without JEI, there's no interface for the mod to hook into.
Will this mod hurt my performance or cause lag?
It only adds informational pages to JEI and doesn't run anything during gameplay, so it has no meaningful impact on performance. Any lag you see is almost certainly from another mod.
