How to Search Items by Pinyin in JEI and the Creative Inventory

Typing Pinyin into the Search Bar

Once the mod is installed, the search boxes used by Just Enough Items and the creative inventory accept Pinyin directly. Click the search field and start typing the Pinyin of the Chinese item name instead of switching your IME to Chinese. For example, to find 石头 (stone), type shitou. The result list filters as you type, exactly like a normal English search.

You do not need to type the tones, and you do not need to type spaces between syllables. Just run the syllables together.

Using Initials and Mixed Input

You can shorten your typing in two ways:

  • Initial consonants only: type just the first letter of each syllable. 石头 becomes st, 钻石 becomes zs. This is the fastest method once you know the item names.
  • Mixed input: combine full syllables with initials in one query, such as shit or zuanS. The mod matches partial and combined forms, so you rarely need to finish a word.

If a search returns nothing, check that the item actually has a Chinese name in your language file; untranslated mod items may only respond to their English name. Clearing the field and retyping usually refreshes the index if a newly added mod's items are missing.
