Understand Crafting Grid Layouts in Tooltips

How the Grid is Displayed

When you hover over an item, Just Enough Book shows a small crafting grid in the tooltip. This grid represents the 3×3 crafting table layout. Each cell shows which ingredient goes in that position.

Reading Ingredient Positions

The grid layout matters—ingredients must be placed in the exact positions shown. For example, if a recipe shows ingredients only in the top row, you must place them there, not scattered elsewhere on the crafting table.

Identifying Ingredients

Each ingredient is represented by its item icon. If an ingredient has multiple variants (like different wood types), the tooltip may show one example. Check the ingredient icon carefully to ensure you're using the correct item.

Output Amount

The tooltip displays how many items the recipe produces. This is shown separately from the grid, typically as a number on the output item icon.

Shapeless Recipes

Some recipes don't require specific positions—these are called shapeless recipes. The tooltip will still show all required ingredients, but their exact placement in the crafting grid doesn't matter.
