How to Open and Read the JourneyMap Full-Screen Map

Opening the map

Press the JourneyMap full-screen map key (by default J) while in-game. The map fills your screen and shows every chunk you have explored, drawn in real time as you travel. If J does nothing, another mod may have claimed that key — open your controls menu and look for the JourneyMap category to rebind it.

Reading what you see

  • Your position is marked with an arrow that points in the direction you are facing. The arrow rotates as you turn, so you always know your heading.
  • Unexplored areas appear as blank or dark regions. They fill in automatically the moment you walk, fly, or sail through them.
  • Waypoints show as labelled markers you have created or that were auto-generated for things like your spawn point or death location.
  • Mobs and other entities can appear as small icons near your position, depending on your display settings.

Navigating the map

Use the mouse wheel or the zoom keys to zoom in and out. Click and drag to pan around, then press the centre-on-player key to snap back to your arrow. Hovering over a waypoint shows its name and coordinates. From this screen you can also create new waypoints, toggle the minimap, and adjust what layers are drawn — all without leaving the map.
