Using ItemLocks to Stop Accidental Drops Into Lava

Set Up Before You Descend

Lava deaths are the classic reason to install this mod, but the lock has to exist *before* the accident. Before you head into caves, the Nether, or anywhere with lava:

  • Lock the slot holding your most valuable stack (ores, diamonds, enchanted gear).
  • Lock your tool slot so a misclick cannot send your pickaxe into the pool.
  • Lock your food slot so you do not starve while fumbling in a panic.

Hold the lock key (default C) and left-click each slot. You will see the lock indicator appear.

Why Locking Beats Being Careful

When you are startled by a creeper or knocked back by a blaze, your hands do the wrong thing. The drop key is right next to movement keys, and a single tap while a full stack is selected is enough. A locked slot simply ignores that input, so the worst case becomes "I did not drop it" instead of "I watched it sink."

After the Danger

Locks are not one-time. They stay until you remove them, which is usually what you want — but it also means a locked slot will not let you stash loot in a chest at the end of a run. Unlock with the unlock key (default B) before sorting your inventory, then re-lock your essentials before the next trip.
