Item Glow Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on item glow?
Item Glow activates automatically once the data pack is loaded into your world—all dropped items within 100 blocks of you will start glowing right away. There are no commands or settings to toggle; it works from the moment you load it.
Why aren't my dropped items glowing?
Check that the data pack is actually enabled in your world settings (look for it in the datapacks folder or world menu). Items only glow if they're within 100 blocks of a player, so if you've traveled far away, they'll stop glowing.
Do eggs glow like other items?
No, eggs are specifically excluded and will not glow even when dropped near you.
Can I change the glow color or brightness?
Item Glow Data Pack provides a subtle glow effect with no built-in customization options for color or brightness—the glow appearance is fixed.
Does item glow work underwater?
Yes, the glow effect works perfectly underwater, making it especially useful for recovering items after drowning or in underwater caves.
Will this lag my game if there are lots of dropped items?
Data packs are generally lightweight, but having hundreds of glowing items at once could impact performance depending on your hardware; the effect only applies to items within 100 blocks, which helps limit the load.
Does item glow work in the Nether and End?
Yes, the glow effect applies to dropped items in all dimensions, including the Nether and End.
Can I use this with other mods or data packs?
Item Glow is a data pack and should be compatible with most mods and other data packs, though conflicts are possible if another pack modifies item rendering in the same way.
Does the glow help me see items during combat?
Yes, the glow outline makes dropped items visible even when you're surrounded by mobs or in chaotic situations, though you may still need to manage visibility if many items pile up in one spot.
What happens to item glow if I unload the data pack?
Once you remove or disable the data pack, items will no longer glow—the effect stops immediately, though your items themselves remain unaffected.
