Irons Spells N Spellbooks Scroll Description Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to install anything on the server for this mod to work?
No. The scroll descriptions are added entirely on the client side, so you can use it on any server that has Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, even if the server itself doesn't have this mod installed.
How do I see what a scroll does without equipping it?
Just hover over the scroll in your inventory, hotbar, or any container and the tooltip will show the spell's effect description. You don't need to equip or cast it to read what it does.
Why are my scroll tooltips still blank or missing descriptions?
Make sure Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks is actually loaded alongside this mod, since the descriptions are pulled from that mod's spell data. If ISS is missing or a scroll is from an addon that doesn't register properly, the tooltip may not populate.
Does this mod change how the spells actually work in combat?
No. It only adds descriptive text to scroll tooltips. Spell behavior, damage, cooldowns, and mana costs are all handled by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks itself and are unaffected.
Can I use this mod to compare two scrolls side by side?
Yes, hovering over each scroll shows its effect text, so you can quickly read one, then the other, and decide which fits your build. Some players keep both in the hotbar and hover in turn to compare.
Will this mod conflict with other tooltip mods like JEI or WTHIT?
Generally no, since it only appends lines to scroll tooltips. If another mod heavily rewrites tooltip rendering you might see ordering differences, but the description text itself should still appear.
Does the mod hurt performance or FPS?
No noticeable impact. It only builds tooltip text when you hover a scroll, so there's no continuous background work or rendering cost while playing.
Do addon scrolls from other Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks expansions get descriptions too?
It depends on whether the addon registers its spells through the same system ISS uses. Spells that follow the standard registration will usually get descriptions, while custom or hardcoded ones may not.
Can I turn the descriptions off if I don't want them?
There's no in-game toggle for the descriptions themselves; the mod is designed to always show them. If you want them gone, you'd remove the mod, but most players keep it because it's purely informational.
Does the tooltip show mana cost, cooldown, or school of magic too?
The mod focuses on the spell's effect description rather than full stat breakdowns. Any additional stats you see come from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks itself or other tooltip mods, not from this one.
