Testing and Troubleshooting Totem Activation From Inventory

Confirming the Mod Works

If you are unsure whether the effect fires from your inventory, test it deliberately rather than discovering a problem during a real fight.

Safe Test Method

1. In a controlled area, put a Totem of Undying in your inventory but not in either hand.

2. Take damage that would normally be fatal (for example, from a planned fall or a strong mob in a contained space).

3. Observe whether the totem activates and is consumed.

If It Does Not Trigger

  • Make sure the totem is genuinely in your inventory and not in a chest, ender chest, or dropped on the ground.
  • Confirm you are not holding it in a hand by mistake, which would use vanilla behavior anyway.
  • Check whether another mod conflicts with death-prevention or inventory-scanning logic.
  • Verify the mod is actually loaded and enabled for your world.

After a Successful Trigger

  • Note that the totem is gone; replace it before your next risky activity.
  • Remember the effect matches vanilla — brief regeneration and absorption, not permanent protection.
  • Keep testing simple so you can tell exactly which slot the mod reads from.
