Inventory Totem Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I make the totem work from my inventory?
Just keep a Totem of Undying anywhere in your inventory and it will activate automatically when you take fatal damage. No config or keybind is needed—the mod changes the check from your hand to your whole inventory.
Does the totem need to be in my hotbar or can it be in a backpack slot?
It works from any inventory slot, including slots added by backpack or storage mods, as long as the item is actually inside your player inventory. It does not need to be in your hotbar or selected.
Will the totem activate if it's inside a shulker box in my inventory?
No. A totem stored inside a shulker box, bundle, or other container item is not directly in your inventory, so it will not trigger. Keep at least one totem loose in a normal inventory slot for the effect to work.
Does the totem get consumed when it saves me?
Yes, the effect is exactly the same as vanilla—one totem is consumed each time it saves you from death. If you carry multiple totems, the next one can save you again later.
Does this mod work in multiplayer servers?
It works on servers only if the mod is installed on the server side as well, since the death-prevention logic runs there. On a vanilla server without the mod, your inventory totems will not activate.
Do I still get the Absorption and Regeneration effects after it triggers?
Yes, you receive the same effects as a vanilla totem activation, including the health restore and the temporary buffs. The only difference is that you didn't have to hold the totem.
Can I turn the inventory effect off or make it require holding again?
The mod is minimalistic and generally has no in-game toggle, so the inventory behavior is always on once installed. If you want vanilla behavior back, you would remove the mod rather than change a setting.
Does the totem work from my offhand too?
Yes, the offhand is part of your inventory, so a totem there still works just like before. The mod simply adds the rest of your inventory slots to the places the game checks.
Why didn't my totem activate even though I had one?
Common causes are the totem being inside a shulker box or bundle, the mod missing on a multiplayer server, or another mod overriding death handling. Move the totem to a plain inventory slot and confirm the mod is loaded on both client and server.
Does this mod hurt performance or conflict with other mods?
It's a lightweight mod that only changes the totem activation check, so performance impact is negligible. Conflicts are rare, but mods that heavily rewrite player death or inventory handling may need testing together.
