Carrying Totems Safely in Shulkers and Storage

Does Storage Count?

A common question is whether a totem stored inside a container you are carrying — such as a shulker box in your inventory — still protects you. Behavior depends on how the mod scans your inventory, so verify in your own setup before relying on it in a dangerous situation.

Safe Practices

1. Keep at least one totem in a normal inventory slot, not only inside a container, as your guaranteed protection.

2. Use shulker boxes for spare totems you can pull out between fights.

3. Avoid leaving your only totem in a chest at base — it cannot help you there.

Avoiding Accidental Loss

  • Do not keep totems in a slot you frequently swap, such as a hotbar slot used for food or blocks.
  • When organizing loot after a fight, double-check you did not move your totem into a chest you are about to leave behind.
  • If you use mods that auto-sort inventory, confirm they do not shuffle totems into storage you drop.

Quick Checklist Before Adventuring

  • At least one totem in a stable inventory slot.
  • Spare totems in a shulker if you expect prolonged danger.
  • No totems left behind in base storage.
