Inventory Sorter Mod FAQ
16 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I sort my inventory with this mod?
Middle-click on a slot in the inventory you want sorted. The server rearranges the items, grouping identical items together from highest to lowest count.
How do I move just one item to a chest?
Hover over the item and scroll your mouse wheel toward the other inventory. Each scroll tick moves a single item, so you can move exactly as many as you want.
Does this mod work on servers?
Yes, but it must be installed on both the client and the server. The client only sends the request; the server does all the sorting, which is why it stays fast and reliable.
Why does middle-click do nothing when I try to sort?
The most common cause is that the mod is missing on the server side, or your middle mouse button is bound to something else. Check that both sides have the mod and that no other mod is capturing the middle-click.
Can I sort hoppers and other containers besides chests?
Yes, the mod works with hoppers, player inventories, and most other containers. It tries to respect slot rules like canExtract and isItemValid, so it avoids slots that shouldn't be touched.
Does scrolling move a whole stack or just one item?
Scrolling moves exactly one item per wheel tick, not a full stack. If you want to move a stack, you'll need to scroll repeatedly or drag it manually.
How does the mod decide what order to sort items in?
It groups items by their registry name and then orders them from highest count to lowest. This keeps identical items together so you can see what you have at a glance.
Will this mod cause lag on my server?
Sorting is handled entirely by the server and is designed to be fast, so it generally has minimal performance impact. Very large or heavily modded inventories may take slightly longer, but it shouldn't cause noticeable lag.
Does it work with modded containers from other mods?
It should work with most containers, including ones added by other mods, since it uses general container logic. Some special slots that restrict extraction or insertion may be skipped to avoid breaking those rules.
Can I sort my inventory while a chest is open?
Yes, middle-clicking sorts whichever inventory you're hovering over. You can sort the chest, your own inventory, or both without closing the screen.
What does middle-clicking do in the Inventory Sorter Mod?
Middle-clicking sorts the inventory from highest to least item count. It groups items using their registry name.
What does the scroll wheel do when you're in an inventory?
Scrolling moves a single item at a time from one inventory to the other. Scrolling in and out of the inventory moves items one by one.
Does the Inventory Sorter Mod need to be installed on the server?
Yes, it requires installation on both the client and the server to function. All sorting work is delegated to the server rather than the client.
Why is the mod considered reliable and fast?
It makes no attempt to sort on the client, instead delegating all work to the server. This server-side approach makes it very reliable and very fast.
Which containers does the mod work with?
It works with chests, the player's inventory, and hoppers. It should work with all containers and tries to respect canExtract and isItemValid by avoiding marked slots.
Does the mod sort items by name or by count?
Middle-click sorting orders the inventory from highest to least count. Items are grouped using their registry name.
