How to Keep Your Hotbar From Being Sorted

Why the Hotbar Is Excluded

The mod deliberately leaves the hotbar untouched when sorting. Your hotbar holds the items you need instantly — weapon, tool, food, blocks — and rearranging them mid-fight or mid-build would be dangerous. Because sorting only affects the main inventory rows, you can sort freely without losing your hotbar layout.

Working With This Behavior

Since the hotbar is safe, use it as your stable "loadout" area:

  • Place your most-used tools and weapons in fixed hotbar slots and never worry about sorting moving them.
  • Keep your main inventory as loose storage; sort it whenever it gets messy.
  • When you pick up new items, they land in the main inventory, not the hotbar, so sorting will organize them without disturbing your setup.

If You Want a Specific Order

Alphabetical sorting ignores how often you use an item, so a rarely-used item may end up before a common one. There is no per-slot custom sort in the base feature — the mod sorts alphabetically. If you want a particular arrangement, move the items you care about into the hotbar (which is never sorted) or into a dedicated chest you leave unsorted.

Remember: the hotbar exclusion is a feature, not a bug. If your hotbar ever appears to change, check whether another mod is also managing inventory, since conflicts can override this behavior.
