Troubleshoot items not appearing in new player inventories

Verify configuration file syntax

JSON files are strict about formatting. Check that:

1. All quotes are straight (") not curved

2. Commas separate entries correctly

3. Brackets and braces are properly matched

4. No trailing commas exist after the last entry

Use an online JSON validator if unsure.

Check item IDs and slot numbers

1. Confirm the item ID is correct (e.g., minecraft:diamond_sword, not diamond_sword)

2. Verify slot numbers are within valid range (0-26 for inventory, 27-30 for armor)

3. Ensure count is set to at least 1

Reload the configuration

1. Save your config file changes

2. Restart the server completely, or use the mod's reload command if available

3. Have a new player join (the mod only applies to first-time joiners)

4. Check if items now appear

NBT data issues

If items with NBT aren't working:

1. Re-run /data get entity @s SelectedItem to get fresh NBT

2. Ensure you removed id and count from the NBT section

3. Verify the NBT structure matches your mod's expected format
