Initially Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Where do I put the configuration file?
The configuration file is a JSON file located in your config folder (usually `config/initiallymod/` or similar depending on your mod loader). Create this folder if it doesn't exist, then place your configuration JSON there.
How do I get the NBT data for an enchanted tool?
Hold the enchanted item in your hand and run `/data get entity @s SelectedItem` in chat, then copy the entire output. Extract the `id` value for the `itemLocation` field and copy the `tag` object separately for the item's NBT data.
Can I give players different starter inventories based on who they are?
This mod provides one global starter inventory per world, not per-player configurations. If you need different kits for different player types, you would need to use additional mods or server plugins alongside Initially Mod.
What happens if a player already has items when they join?
The mod only applies the starter inventory to players joining a world for the first time. Once a player has joined before, the starter inventory will not be given to them again on subsequent joins.
Can I put items in specific inventory slots or just fill it randomly?
You can specify exactly which slot each item goes into by configuring the slot number in your JSON file. This lets you place tools, armor, and other items in precise locations.
How do I give players a full set of enchanted armor?
Configure each armor piece as a separate entry in your JSON, specifying the slot for each piece (helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots) and including the full NBT data with enchantment tags for each item.
Will the starter inventory overwrite items already in a player's inventory?
Yes, the mod will place configured items into the specified slots, potentially overwriting anything already there. Make sure your slot configuration doesn't conflict with items you want players to keep.
What do I do if items aren't appearing in new players' inventories?
Check that your JSON syntax is valid, verify the `itemLocation` field matches the exact item ID, and ensure the configuration file is in the correct folder. If using NBT data, confirm the tag structure is properly formatted.
Can I include items with custom names or lore?
Yes, custom names and lore are stored in the NBT `tag` data. Include the `display` object with `Name` and `Lore` fields in your item's NBT configuration to give items custom text.
Does this mod work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, Initially Mod works on multiplayer servers and is commonly used on anarchy and survival servers to help new players get started. The configuration applies to all new players joining that world.
