IndyPets Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start controlling my pets?
Tame a pet normally (wolf, cat, parrot, etc.), then use Shift + right-click on it to cycle through sitting, following, and independent modes. You can also press J to whistle and control all nearby pets at once.
What's the difference between sitting, following, and independent mode?
Sitting mode keeps your pet in place. Following mode makes it trail behind you. Independent mode lets your pet roam freely within a configurable area around their home location.
How do I set a home location for my pet?
Use Shift + right-click to put your pet in independent mode at the location you want to be their home—that spot becomes their roaming center. You can configure how far they wander from that point.
Can I use this mod on a server?
Yes, the mod runs entirely server-side. Vanilla clients can use /indypets commands to control pets, and players with the mod installed client-side get hotkeys and sound effects too.
How do I use the whistle command?
Press J (default hotkey) to whistle and rally all nearby pets to you, or use /indypets whistle in chat. Use /indypets unwhistle to dismiss them back to their previous state.
Can I use Goat Horns as whistles?
Yes, you can configure Goat Horns to act as whistles with custom settings using the /indypets horn command, giving you an in-game item alternative to the hotkey.
Does this work with pets from other mods?
Yes, the mod is designed to work with tamed creatures from other mods, as long as they follow standard Minecraft pet mechanics.
My pet won't stop following me—how do I fix it?
Shift + right-click your pet to cycle it into sitting or independent mode instead of following mode. Make sure you're not accidentally in following mode.
Can I customize how far my pet roams in independent mode?
Yes, independent mode roaming boundaries are configurable—check your config file or use in-game settings to adjust how far pets wander from their home location.
Do I need to install this on the client if I'm playing on a server?
No, the server handles everything, but installing it client-side gives you hotkeys, sound effects, and more configuration options for a better experience.
