How to Turn a Custom Image into a Map with Image2Map

Getting the image ready

Before you touch the game, make sure your image is reachable by URL. Image2Map downloads the picture from a link, so a local file path on your desktop will not work. Host it somewhere the game can fetch it, or use a direct image link. Keep the image reasonably sized — a single map only holds a 128×128 pixel area, so very large images get scaled down.

Creating the map

Open chat and run the create command. The simplest form takes a dither setting and a URL:

/image2map create <dither/none> <URL>

If you want a bigger canvas, add width and height in pixels before the dither option:

/image2map create <WIDTH> <HEIGHT> <dither/none> <URL>

Remember each map covers 128×128, so a 256×256 request produces a grid of maps. Dither blends colors to fake extra shades; none keeps flat colors. Once the command finishes, the resulting map item appears for you to hold and place in an item frame.

Placing and sharing

Put the map in an item frame on a wall. If you made a multi-map image, place each map in its own frame side by side in the correct order. Because the maps are normal vanilla maps, other players on a vanilla-compatible server can see them too.
