Image2Map Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start using Image2Map after installing it?
Run /image2map preview to see how your image will look before committing anything. Once you're happy with the result, use /image2map create to turn it into an actual map item.
What image formats and sources can I use with Image2Map?
You provide the image as a URL, so any image the game can fetch from that link works. Direct image links (ending in a file extension) are the most reliable; image-hosting pages that wrap the image in HTML usually won't work.
Why does my image look wrong or fail to load?
The most common causes are a broken or indirect URL, an image that's too large to fetch, or a server that blocks the request. Try a direct link to a smaller image first, then scale up once it works.
How big can a single map be, and how do I make larger images?
One map holds a single 128x128 pixel tile, so anything bigger gets split across multiple maps. Use /image2map create to specify the full pixel dimensions, and the mod will divide it into the right number of map tiles.
How do I place a multi-map image on a wall so the tiles line up?
Create the image at the full width and height you want, then place each resulting map into item frames in the same grid layout the mod generated. Keep the frames adjacent and in order, or the picture will look scrambled.
What's the difference between dither and no dither?
Dither mixes pixels to fake extra colors and gradients, which helps photos and smooth shading look better. No dither keeps flat, solid colors crisp, which suits logos, pixel art, and simple graphics.
How do I change the dither setting while previewing?
While in preview mode, run /dither to switch between the two modes and see the result update. Once it looks right, save it as a map item.
Can other players see my custom maps on a vanilla server?
Yes, the maps are vanilla-compatible, so anyone on the server can view them normally. They just need the map item itself; they don't need the mod installed to see the image.
Does Image2Map work on a server, and does everyone need the mod?
The maps render as standard vanilla maps, so players without the mod can still see them. The command itself is what generates the map, so whoever runs it needs the mod available.
Will large images lag my game or the server?
Very large images mean many map tiles, which can add up in item frames and map data. Start with a modest size, check performance, and only scale up if things stay smooth.
