How to Preview an Image Before Committing It to a Map

Why preview first

Rendering a large image can produce many maps, and you may not like how dithering or scaling looks. The preview command lets you see the result as a dynamic preview before it is saved as an actual map item, so you can adjust settings without wasting materials or map slots.

Running the preview

Use:

/image2map preview <URL>

This opens a live preview of how the image will appear on a map. While in preview mode you can tweak options without restarting. The main one is dithering:

/dither <dither/none>

Switch between dither and none and watch the preview update so you can judge which looks better for your artwork. Dithered images tend to look smoother for photos and gradients, while none suits logos and flat-color art.

Saving the result

When the preview looks right, confirm or save it through the preview interface to turn it into the map item(s). If you are unhappy, just change the dither setting or supply a different URL and preview again. Previewing is the safest way to experiment, especially before making a multi-map wall display where a wrong setting would be costly to redo.
