How to Keep Minecraft Quiet When You're Not Playing It
The problem: sound keeps playing
Minecraft does not stop its audio engine when the window is unfocused. Music discs, mob sounds, cave ambience, and the soundtrack all keep playing, which is annoying when you alt-tab to watch something or take a call.
How Idle Tweaks handles it
Idle Tweaks Mod automatically mutes Minecraft's sounds whenever the game window is not in focus. There is no keybind or menu toggle you need to press — the mute is tied directly to window focus.
- Alt-tab away → sound is silenced.
- Click back into the game → sound returns at its previous volume.
Things to check if sound still plays
1. Make sure the game window is truly unfocused. If you have the game running in a borderless or windowed mode and another window is only partially covering it, the game may still count as focused.
2. Check your operating system's audio routing. Some setups route game audio through a separate mixer or capture device that ignores the game's internal mute.
3. Confirm the mod is loaded. If you use a mod loader, verify Idle Tweaks appears in your mod list for the current profile.
Because the mute is automatic, you do not need to touch Minecraft's own volume sliders — leave them where you like them, and the mod will handle silencing the game only while you are away from it.
