Icy’s Horse Breeds Resource Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need a separate mod or is this just a resource pack?
This is a resource pack only—it requires vanilla Minecraft with no additional mods. Simply load it like any other resource pack and horses will immediately display as different breeds.
How do I tell which breed a horse is?
Each breed has a distinct body shape and coat pattern that you can identify by looking at it. Refer to the breed identification guide to learn the visual differences between all fifteen types, or check your stable to see them side-by-side.
Do different breeds have different stats or speed?
No—all breeds use vanilla horse stats and speed. The resource pack only changes appearance, so a Shire is just as fast as a Thoroughbred; the difference is purely visual.
Will saddles and armor fit all horse sizes?
Yes, saddles and armor automatically scale and reposition to fit each breed's unique body shape, from small ponies to massive draft horses. You equip them normally and they adjust visually.
Can I breed horses and will foals look right?
Yes, breeding works normally, and foals receive custom scaled models that match their breed. A foal will look like a smaller version of its parents with the same coat pattern.
Do the different breeds move or animate differently?
Yes, each breed has custom animations for walking, trotting, galloping, and swimming that suit their body type. Heavier breeds move differently than lighter riding breeds, adding visual variety to movement.
Will this work with other horse mods or mods that change horses?
This resource pack may conflict with other mods that alter horse models or textures. Test compatibility by loading both together; if horses look wrong, one of them needs to be disabled.
Can I use this on a multiplayer server?
Yes, this is a client-side resource pack, so you can use it on any server without the server needing to install it. Other players will see vanilla horses unless they also load the pack.
Do I lose any vanilla horse features or mechanics?
No—taming, breeding, riding, and all vanilla mechanics work exactly the same. This pack only changes how horses look, not how they function.
Why do my horses look vanilla or wrong after loading the pack?
Make sure the resource pack is enabled and ranked above any conflicting packs in your resource pack list. If it's still not working, try reloading the world or restarting the game.
